At the Battle of Winchester, the 3rd Wisconsin Infantry broke and begain to rout from the field, Major General Nathaniel Banks exclaimed.
"Stop men! Don't you love your country?" to which one of the fleeing soldiers responded. "Yes, by God, and I'm going back to it just as fast as I can."
